Hello all kakis,
Just like to share with you all our trip to Rompin from 10-11 June06. We drove up the night before. As usual, we make the usual stop at Mersing for our late supper. The next morning, our group of nine split into two boats & went our separate ways to look for our sails. The sea was calm but there were no sails in sight for the morning & early afternoon. While waiting for the sailfish, the boatman suggested we try some bottom fishing. I took a piece of the crab that the boatman brought along & let it down to the bottom before making a few turns of my reel to bring the bait up from the bottom. Within a few minutes, I noticed the rod tip started moving. The boatman told me to let it nibble for a while first & wait for the pull before setting the hook. True enough, the next moment, my rod took a strong pull & I set the hook straight away & managed to pull up a two kilo plus parrot fish. Unfotunately, the photo of the parrot fish turned out very badly, no thanks to my friend's "expensive" camera:mad:
After this parrot, the seas turned ugly with black clouds coming at us from a distance. Without taking a chance, the boatman decided to end the day early by going back to shore at 3.30pm.
Day two: we told the boatman we must land at least one sailfish. On our boat are two first-timers who have the faintest idea how a sailfish looked like.
We went to the fad & started jigging for baits. We headed further out this day & searched for tell tale signs that point to sailfish. We were lucky to spot the birds circling the ikan billis & started sending the live baits & ballons out.
To cut the story short, we managed to hook up four sails & landed 2 for th day. Attached for the photos for your viewing pleasure.
Best regards,
Marlin
