Cr @ Tp: 260909-280909

Hey guys, just got back from TP recently. Overall weather was windy with a short passing shower on the 2nd day morning. Overall quite choppy especially the 2nd day morning. Not many squids were scooped up this trip, the squids could be seen only for brief period of time before going down to the depths again. And even fewer float up to scooping range.

Day 1:
As usual, arrived at TMFT in the morning and took the ferry over to Tg. Pinang. On arrival, we cleared customs & proceeded to Ah Kiang's shop before heading for lunch.

Ah Kiang's Shop

Here comes our stuff

Lunch at ALim's

After lunch, we took a small boat over to the motherboat. From there, we took the 4hrs+ journey to the 1st spot.

Nice Custom buttwrap

On arrival, it was quite choppy & windy. Baits were let down eagerly and we were quickly greeted by the fishes. I had a good take but lost the fish halfway when the hook pulled off. 1 lucky guy had a double hookup of a nice sized ang mueh along with one tomato cod on his 2 hook apollo rig. Overall, we hit a variety of lengjiams, angmuehs and the lone tomato cod.

A not so bad sized one

Without warning, we heard the drag on a reel go off with the fish taking line in a short burst. An angler was on to something sizeable. However, after a few runs, the fish gaveup and was quickly gaffed up. Alas, the fish was not as good as we all may have hoped. It turned out to be only a Jahan.

Fish on!

Coming in soon, crew standby the gaff

Ready...

Aiyah! Only a jahan...

As night fell, the bites slowed down and we only managed a few pieces of Kaci and lengjiam at night. I retired early for the night.

Day 2:
Wokeup at 4+am and was quickly rewarded with 2 lengjiams. The bite rate was generally slow with only a few pieces of fish hauled up at each spot the boat shifted to. At 1 spot, we raised 3 small bulats.

Pumping in the fish...

The Bulats

Shortly after the bulats, the boat captain decided to shift spot to search for the ang muehs. And there, we hit the jackpot after a slow morning at a few other spots. Almost instantly, we started registering bite after bite. A mix of lengjiams, angmuehs & groupers were landed at this spot.

Some of the catches by another angler

Later in the day after lunch, we shifted to a spot where the boat captain told us we hit our angkueh the last trip. A previous group had been to this same spot and they hit 8pcs angsai averaging 3kgs each. Not long, the boat crew had a very good take on his handline. After a short fight, up came a nice sized 3.5kg angsai. Spirits were high, hoping for more angsai but that was not to be. It was the lone ranger at the spot.

Later that evening, at 1 of the spots, we had a short session with good bite rate. A good mixture of fish in the form of ang go li, peh he, barracuda & leng jiams were landed. Suddenly, 1 of the anglers had a very nice take on his apollo rig.

Nice one...

Coming in slowly but steadily

Its a cobia!

Happy angler & sad cobia

As night fell, the bites slowed down. When it was completely dark, we hit a few nurse sharks and ah seng. Not long after, I felt quite tired and went to have a rest. I wokeup the next morning at 4+am, to find a good size jio lor & a large grouper in 1 of the orange ice boxes. Before daybreak, I managed a kaci & angmueh while the others up a few stingrays.

See that smile!

Another shot, 9kgs on the grip

At 6+am, the captain suggested we shift to 1 last spot before calling it a day. There, I got my last fish of the trip, a nice parrot fish.
